THIS IS HOW I STAY SAFE ALL DAY

By Jack

Today I am going to explain how I stay safe all day by telling you about safety tips, online safety, and child runaways. Parents everyday are devastated when they find out their child is abducted. That is why I want to help prevent child abduction. So, let's dive in and explain how to protect your children and how they can stay safe all day!

To kick it off, I want to clarify some safety tips that your children should know. Children should know their address, phone number, and area code. They also should never share this information with strangers. They should know how to dial 911 and describe the situation that they are in and where they are at. As the author states in the website fdle.state.fl.us, “If your child misses the school bus, tell him/her not to accept a ride from anyone not pre-approved by you as a backup.” Now, with all this information I am going to share how to make it fun. You can use Kahoot or another trivia website. Role-playing is another big thing that children would enjoy doing. Role-playing allows kids to perform what they’ve learned in a safe environment. This can make them feel more confident when they are in a real situation. Learning safety tips is vital for your child, and while it is hard, you can still make it fun.

Secondly, I’ll talk about why online safety is important. Online safety is important because many people can convince young children to give out sensitive information or download dangerous files that can cause a virus, which can lead to money being stolen or the whole device being hacked and unusable. As the author states in the website cisa.gov, “Online predators present another significant threat, particularly to children.” Because the internet is so unknown, it is easy for scammers to trick and confuse others. In addition, Parents and kids should know how to prevent cyberbullying and protect personal information. One way is implementing parental controls. Parental controls allow parents to control what websites and apps children can or can’t use. Another way is to warn them about the dangers of going online. Make sure you tell them what websites they can use and when they are allowed to be on the device. Online safety is scary but, with the right precautions you can use it safely.

Last but not least, I will talk about how to prevent your child from getting abducted. Do not have them put on clothes or accessories with their name on them, many children will tend to trust people who know their name. Always set boundaries on where to go to supervise them in big, crowded places like the mall or movie theater. As the author states in the website kidshealth.org, “Choose caregivers - babysitters, childcare providers, and nannies carefully and check their references. In turn, you should also know what to do when your child runs away or gets abducted. If your child is abducted, call the police immediately and provide a recent photo of them, their height, age, fingerprints, weight, and eye color. After that, go search and ask people if they’ve seen your child. You should always prepare for child abduction just in case it ever happens so you will be ready.

In conclusion, you can prevent child abduction by teaching safety tips, online safety, and what to do if your child runs away or gets abducted. These are essential for your child’s safety. Your child depends on you to be shielded from the terrible people out there!
